The following tips are ones that I find very helpful in helping me getting unstuck from a creative block!
Go for A Walk.
Sitting all day at your desk can make you feel like you are stuck. It can make you feel stagnant and not very happy. Science has backed up that walking is something we do naturally when we need a boost of inspiration. It turns out subjects gave better creative solutions to test when walking rather than sitting. Fresh air is always helpful, but in this case it doesn’t matter if you walk inside or outside. Jump on a treadmill, around your block, or inside your home. It doesn’t matter where, as long as you get your heart pumping and you will see what new ideas come to you.
Connect to Your Inner Child
It is my strong believe that we are all born artists. Children are immensely creative and they can be entertained for hours just being creative. What did you like to do for fun as a kid? Did you love playing outdoors? Playing with friends? Maybe even spending a great amount of time playing make-believe. Play checkers, play with your kids or pets. There is nothing better than letting the inner child run free.
Remember how I said connecting to your inner child? I know as a kid I loved to color and draw. Get an adult coloring book, they have sets that come with colors that are relatively inexpensive. The patterns will calm you down and help you destress. I know for me, the act of creating any artwork is calming and meditative. It’s a simple activity that works great for your hand-eye coordination.
Take a Different Route to Work.
I know I am guilty of using the same way to work. Every. Single. Time. I have found that by shaking up my routine, it keeps your mind sharp. It is very easy to go on autopilot. Broaden your perspective by opting to go through a new spot. It can also help you to see new things, or even realize what you had missed previously. If you walk the same city blocks, try a different route.
Reading is the best way to get away. It can be fun and you can also learn new things. It would be best if you read all different kind of books to keep your mind working differently. Read a romance novel, then a fantasy. You will be surprised how you can come alive with a rush of inspiration.
